I'm writing on behalf of my 80 year old mother who had bad credit to begin with, her husband passed on some 12 years ago and left her with no insurance, nothing other the her monthly SSI. Throughout her life she was a very responsible person, worked two jobs, raised two children and paid her bills on time. Getting back to Fingerhut, since she had no credit she resorted to buying a vacuum cleaner from Fingerhut Purchase price $139.99 November 2011.

My mother recently fell and broke her hip, she has been in and out of the hospital for various reason over the past year. At this time I (2/12) stepped in the help her with her finances and bills. I found this FINGERHUT bill for $876 dollars. When I called the company to try and figure this mess out. I was told that my mother signed up for something called AUTO GOLD (a third party company) that bills through finger hut, something like $59 every six months. Auto Gold (877-397-****) is something similar to AAA auto club. Fingerhut also told me she signed up for something called COMPLETE HOME, conveniently enough another third party company who bills through Fingerhut. Complete Home

(877-397-****) this company is suppose to provide coupons and discount! What I never saw anything in the house from a company called Complete Home, let alone a single discount coupon.

Finally it was my mothers understanding that she was getting ONE YEAR of free life insurance from Fingerhut (Via Hartford insurance) that covered accidental death or dismemberment. She did sign up for this, but her understanding was that Fingerhut was providing it for FREE for the first year. Conveniently enough for Fingerhut everything cost $59 and is handled through a third party company. Therefore I had to call all three companies to cancel these BS programs to stop the billing back to Fingerhut.

(2/27/12) I talked with Greg Vanzee at Fingerhut who treated me like I was some kind of moron, I told him he could talk to me like I was and adult. Then he said well your mother is an adult and purchased these things. I told him I would be glad to pay for the vacuum (a piece of crap it is) and I'd be willing to pay twice the value of the vacuum to cover interest. He was not interested in talking with me and claimed my mother made all these purchases and we now owed them $876.00 dollars. I told him my mother was 80 years old and she has been hospitalized and it's possible the bill was not paid, however she insists she never purchased AUTO GOLD and COMPLETE HOME discount service.

Making the purchase of a $140 vacuum cost a total of $876 dollars. When I asked Mr. Vanzee what the charges were, he told me about the additional programs I mention above and he also told me that there were $388 of late charges and intrest added to the account. Mr. Vanzee would not try to clear up the problem, would not bargain or hear my side of the story that my mother did not purchase the two additional services. Let alone the fact she would never purchase Auto Gold because I already purchased "AAA" automobile services for her for the last three years.

Bottom line here. ONLY A FOOL WOULD DEAL WITH FINGERHUT after reading my story. The company is a major Rip Off and should be put out of business for stealing from senior citizens who can no more afford this kind of BS in their lives, while struggling to survive and feed themselves. If it were you or me and we did this to a senior citizen we would be thrown in jail and branded as a felon, yet Fingerhut gets away with this crap. My offer to pay Fingerhut $300 for a $140 vacuum was not good enough for Mr. Greg Vanzee. He told me they would rather take the write off. That having been said Fingerhut will never get a dime out of me or my mother. More so likely she will pass on longer before this bill is ever settled and I say all the better, so be it. I've been very honest here in my complaint, my mother had bad credit to begin with. Fingerhut deserves what ever they get when they know well enough beforehand who they are dealing with when they give out credit and sell their junk to people who can no more afford them then I can afford to buy the Taj Mahal.

DON'T DEAL WITH FINGERHUT.

THE ONLY FINGER I GIVE TO FINGERHUT IS THE MIDDLE ONE ON MY RIGHT HAND.

Its so very true about Fingerhut Customer Service, they do treat their and talk to their customer like their Customers are *** and I myself is wondering of how they are still in business. I guess, its their insane prices that keep them in business with the least customers.

I to owed Fingerhut some money and they took all of my clothes and now I'm Butt Naked ! It's very cold outside here in the North Pole !

My recommendation is don't call Fingerhut on your home phone, don't call any of the so called third companies. Each and every one of them will record your phone number, pass it back to Fingerhut and then the harassment starts. :upset Phone calls starting at 8 AM and continuing on and off all day long.

I gave Fingerhut the company a chance to settle my mom's account and it was not enough for them had I just paid for the purchased product at twice the price to cover interest and fees. Fingerhut insisted my mom purchased all these so called EXTRA items, that she did not! In fact Fingerhut told me on the phone they would rather take the write off then accept my offer! My offer of paying $300 on the purcahse of a $149 dikkar vacuun was not good enough. So I changed the phone number and that is what Fingerhut will get.

The finger! Don't deal with Fingerhut, it's a company of last resort and if you are smart you would not even use them then!

And as for the offer from Brandon to call the company now. :cry forget it. I will never call or talk to Fingerhut again, they will harass you to death with phone calls!

Just don't deal with them.

Keep on with doing your mom's finances. As for Fingerhut, you can safely ignore them.

Make sure they do not have any bank or cr. card info of your mothers. Then just ignore their bills.

Face it: what are they going to do to her? Tell her what you are doing, tho.
