I GOT CREDIT BACK IN OCT. I HAVE NOT NOR WILL I BUY FROM THEM. THEY SAID IF I SEND THEM A M.O. OR CHECK FOR $30.00 THEN I CAN BUY SOMETHING NOT OVER $170.00.

WOW TALK ABOUT NUTS. IF I WANTED TO PAY FOR IT I WOULD GO LOCALLY AND JUST PAY. I WANTED CREDIT. PRICES SUCK AS WELL.

SO HIGH AT LEAST A 25% MARK UP.

SHIPPING STINKS TOO.

K, I GOT MY THREE CENTS IN. HAVE A GREAT DAY...

The fresh start program is to extend credit for the first purchase up to the amount they offer, say 200.00. You can purchase up to that amount, anything over you have to add to your first time payment of 30.00 in order to ship.

It is not revolving credit yet, but an initial loan credit amount. Once you pay off the amount (have to at least pay once more after deposit amount and not all at once). You graduate to REVOLVING credit, meaning the credit increase they will then give you revolves based on total credit used.

They report fast so your credit score will go up with the fresh start program as an open account in good standing with your first 30.00 payment, Each monthly payment gets reported as well. Often it's enough of an initial boost to get your score up to get a card like Capital one Journey card.

This isn't a helpful comment. Fingerhut relies upon creditworthiness just like any other lender.

If they wouldn't approve you for the traditional credit account, it's because of your credit history - not your history with the company. Fingerhut is a massive company that won't just "take your word for it." The $30 is a down payment for the Freshstart program, which can help you move to a traditional credit account with them if you manage to pay it off on time without going late on a single payment.

Pay off old debts, pay down existing credit cards, then reapply. Or do the Freshstart program.

Not sure if things have changed recently or my case is different, but I got the Fresh Start account and ordered a dog bed. I paid the down payment, waited a week, and then paid off the balance.

It was maybe a week later that my account changed over to the revolving line and my CL went to $300.

I will purchase something and pay it off. I havenโ€™t got my first statement yet, but Iโ€™m thinking about leaving a very small balance just so it will show on my credit report.

You have to go through the payment plan (especially on the fresh start plan). Paying in full defeats the puprose of this type of account.

The whole idea is to make certain one has the discipline to wait it out and commit to making monthly payments over a certain period of time. They do not care that you have the cash available to pay now; if you do, why are you ordering through Fingerhut? This is a revolving credit line and can seriously help to improve poor or even really bad credit. Use it wisely.

They report to the credit agencies monthly, like clock work!

I thank Fingerhut for giving me a chance to repair (and I have) what I had destroyed years ago. I'm back!

I agree. I was able to get an unsecured credit card from capital one just because fingerhut reported a positive and it boosted me a bit up enough to get the journey card.

Just so ppl know on fresh start. You can't pay in full the first month.

That will reset the agreement. It's in the contract . So first pay the 30 down, then min payment, then the next month can pay full.

It's that easy. I have had no probs.

Guest

The 30 $ was jyst a show of goid faith..the remainder of yoyr purchase would have been in monthly payments..this is hiw all freshstart accounts are done, once you pay off first purchase you get a credit increase and no longer have to make down payments. .

It was automatily from my bank account

I paid full price for a knife set. But was charged a monthly pament anyway. When I paid that off I was charged for not ordering again

I do not think that anonymous has lied. You have just misunderstood him.

You are given 6 months to pay off the fresh start balance, and if you pay them all on time and the minimum payment, after it is paid off, you will receive a revolving credit account. He did not say that you could purchase a second order while paying off your fresh start order, because you can't do that. That's why you should have bought up to your limit on your first purchase, because even though you had that difference between what you ordered and what your maximum is, that does not matter. You could have ordered up to your maximum on the first order, but in the fresh start program, there is no such thing as a second order until the account is paid off in full, and then you can order again with the revolving account, and you will be able to order without a down payment, and then owe your payment the first part of the month following when you received your product.

Now with that account, as you pay your balance down, by paying at least the minimum payment, and paying on time, you will be eligible for credit increases and you can place an order any time you want, as many times as you want, as long as you stay under your credit limit, but you do not have to pay your balance completely off with the revolving account before you can get a credit increase.

That will take place as you pay it down, at the discretion of fingerhut. But the individual who works for fingerhut knows what they are talking about

I have the fresh start account and I was told if you don't put all your purchases together you can't purchase again until you pay the first one off to prove u will pay on time. I enjoy my fresh start got nice Shoes but once paid off can move to higher account

Guest

also you could find find catalog and promo codes witch could lower your price

Full disclosure: I work for fingerhut. The product you are describing is called Freshstart.

We use it for folks who have little to no credit. Once you make that first purchase with the $30 Down Payment and pay off your purchase with no late payments (to prove that you will make your payments on time) then we will give you a regular revolving account where you do not need to give down payments on purchases AND we will increase your credit limit to $200.

From that point, you may be eligible for credit line increases as you continue to shop with Fingerhut and make payments on time. Hope this helps.

Ah, but see you still lie. As I opened a fresh start account.

I made my first 2 payments. Then I saw something else I liked & tried to order it. Oh, low n behold, then i'm told i have to pay for 6 months on time before I can order anything else on my credit limit.

I owe $51 left, then I'm closing the account. I should have been told upfront about the 6 month gap time.

i just want to say i started with a fresh start account had to put down $30 paid off in 6 months got a revolving account and not 6 months later i have over $800 in credit because of my timely payments.

when you sign up for freshstart it clearly states that you can only place one order and pay that off and in 6 months you will be granted a revolving account. YOU need to READ before you complain. no one is lying here.

also yes the prices are a little on the high side but you can find codes that will knock it down. My credit is not that great but fingerhut shows up each month on my report as paid as agreed. i have absolutly no complaints.

people need to research what you buy first from either websites or stores and know what you are getting a head of time.

I agree with โ€œRead the Fine Print.โ€ It is only six months of your life and oneโ€™s Credit doesnโ€™t tank over night. They are very upfront about how the FreshStart program works.

I look at it as thatโ€™s the price I pay for having screwed up. It seems forever while you are working through fixing your credit, but when your credit is better, it will really seem like no time at all.

Donโ€™t fight against it. It will appear as a positive paid as agreed on your Credit Report.

Thats not true tho. I applied payed my 30 bucks.

Then i payed the rest in full and then like 1 to 2 months later my credit limit went up to 200. Then 4 months to 6 months later it went up to 500 but then this year after i payed it off completley they took 400 and now i have a credit limit of 100 so im pissed and havnt ordered since.

Fresh start is just that... A start.

It's meant to help you build your credit. This doesn't happen immediately. Building credit, especially after ruining it is a slow and painful process. No one is willing to give you a chance to fix it by just handing you credit, you have to prove you are able to handle credit.

They don't want to lose money but are willing to help people even if that means they might lose if the people won't pay. I'm on my second month of fresh start and am really trying to NOT pay it off in full right now.

It takes a little bit for the credit reporting places to get it in the system so .... yea that's my experience and I'm old so you have to listen :)

They didn't lie. It is todl to you when you first get the initial credit loan- up to that amount, and then you can graduate to revolving credit if you pay on time.

You must make at least one more payment after as well. Meaning you can not pay it all at checkout. They reported right away, result my credit went high enough to get approved for a capital one card. I plan to still check out the clearance deals, promotions and use fingerhut in rotation.

But I pay my balances off faster and never the minimal. if my payment is say 17.95, i pay at least 25.00 each time or devide it into 2 payments depending non the cost.
